As a community we need to ensure that those who may need assistance understand that they will receive it in a judgement free manner. As a Veteran of Canada’s war in Afghanistan I am very aware that more members of the Canadian Armed Forces have taken their lives following the conclusion of this war than were killed in theatre. The discussion of mental health is a conversation for everyone. There is no shame, or weakness in seeking out assistance to work through those moments that are associated with your service. By speaking with people your burden will be lightened, and a burden shared is more easily carried. As we looked after each other in Afghanistan, or on any other deployment, so will we look after each other on the home-front.
