I am a firm believer that shame disappears when our stories are told in safe spaces. My job working in mental health as a Psychotherapist and Counsellor allows me to bear witness to some amazing stories of healing, courage, and resiliency. However, it has been my own mental health journey and path to healing following a traumatic event many years ago, that has shown me firsthand the immense value of seeking treatment. Since then, my continued monitoring of my mental health and wellness have been vital for me in healing and in so many other important aspects of my life.
To the people out there who are hurting right now… recovery and healing aren’t easy but they’re necessary. I know what it is like to feel like life is no longer wort living – to be exhausted from the pain of simply existing. Please know that this pain does go away an those things and people who once brought you joy will eventually return. Hang in there, have HOPE, you WILL get there. Take that first step – tell someone you are struggling and need help. We are here for you, ready to listen. To everyone else – if you see someone in your life who does not seem themselves these days, take that step and ask them how they are doing or if they need any support. Be the one wo takes the first step in having this conversation – do not wait.
