Need a pair of socks? You can buy some colourful footwear to “Show Your Sole” and support mental health awareness.
Just in time for the gift-giving season, the Windsor-Essex County Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association is now selling special socks as part of the fundraising Sole Focus Project.
“The foot is an important part of this campaign, because it’s symbolic of showing your internal soul — which reflects your mental health,” said Kim Willis, director of communications for CMHA Windsor-Essex County.
For the price of $15, you can have a pair of Good Luck Socks (large or small) bearing the unique turquoise and lime logo of the Sole Focus Project.
“The sock itself is black, and it has the logos on the bottom and the sides,” Willis said.
Good Luck Sock is the name of the company making the socks, founded by Yuri Gerchikov and Leo Shifrin in Edmonton.
Proceeds from the sales go toward providing the community with mental health education, training and awareness. The Sole Focus Project began in February with the goal of raising $500,000 in three years.
Willis said Monday that the project has raised $370,000 to date, and CMHA Windsor-Essex County is hopeful they will meet or even surpass their mark by February of next year. “That means more resources for this community,” she said.
Claudia den Boer, CEO of CMHA Windsor-Essex County, said the organization is delighted with the success of the campaign so far, and pointed out that the socks “make great stocking-stuffer gifts for the holidays.”
The socks can purchased online at https://solefocusproject.ca/shop/, or in person at From the Heart (1356 Ottawa St.) and The Suit Shop (593 Erie St. E.).
